On Tuesday, May 6, 2008, Leah Ruth Anderson and colleague from the Center for Science Education at Emory discussed their work promoting science education at the undergraduate level and their outreach program to Atlanta Public Schools.

The Role of Medical Communications at Winship Cancer Institute

On Thursday, March 27, 2008, Vincent Dollard, director of communications for the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University, spoke to us about new developments at the Institute and the role of the Winship communications office.

Peter Bowerman’s Marketing for Writers

Peter Bowerman spoke at our local chapter meeting Wednesday, January 9. Bowerman, a veteran commercial freelancer and business coach, is the author of the 2000 award-winning Book-of-the-Month Club selection, The Well-Fed Writer, and its 2005 companion volume, TWFW: Back For Seconds (both self-published; www.wellfedwriter.com). His books have become how-to “standards” on starting a lucrative commercial freelancing business – writing for businesses, large and small, and for rates of $50-125+ per hour. He chronicled his self-publishing success (52,000 copies of his first two books in print and a full-time living for over five years) in his third book, the award-winning 2007 release, The Well-Fed Self-Publisher: How to Turn One Book into a Full-Time Living (www.wellfedsp.com).

Emerging Leaders Network for Georgia Bio

On Wednesday, November 14, Stephen MacDonald, PhD spoke at our local chapter meeting about Georgia Bio and its Emerging Leaders Network. AMWA members can get involved in these organizations in order to increase their client base and/or build contacts within the Georgia biotechnology community. Writing a Book in the Medical Field

On Tuesday, September 25, 2007, Regine Harford, medical writer, talked to the group about the process of writing a book in the medical field. Regine co-authored a successful book titled Healthy Pregnancy Over 35 in partnership with an MD.
