The Southeast Chapter Dinner was held at Cru Food and Wine Bar in Denver, CO. Twelve AMWA members were in attendance. Ten individuals were current SE Chapter members; two additional individuals joined the group after invitation by the Chapter president because of recent or impending moves to the SE Chapter territory. The chapter president encouraged each member to do “one small thing” to increase connection between medical writers in their local areas.
A networking happy hour was held on June 30, 2016 in Nashville, TN. The event was held at M.L. Rose Craft Burgers and Beer (West Nashville location), a popular casual gathering spot with a spacious outdoor patio that is very accommodating to large groups. An invite was sent to all current AMWA Southeast members using Evite; the invite was subsequently shared with contacts at Vanderbilt University, who posted information about the event on the Biomedical Research Education and Training Career Development website to capture potential new members. Ten people attended the networking event (8 members, 2 non-members). The chapter provided appetizers.
On February 12, 2016, Kim Korwek, PhD, our President-Elect participated in a medical writing career panel attended by graduate students and post-docs at Vanderbilt University. In conjunction with this event, 3 Southeast Executive Committee members (Hope Lafferty, AM, ELS, Kim Korwek, PhD, and Whitney Smalley-Freed, PhD) attended a happy hour with Vanderbilt graduate students and post-docs to provide information about AMWA and careers in medical communications.
A holiday happy hour was held at Germantown Café in Nashville, TN on December 10, 2015. AMWA Southeast members and Vanderbilt Editors’ Club members were invited to attend. Southeast Executive Committee members shared information regarding educational opportunities provided by AMWA and the Medical Writer Certified credential with attendees. Fifteen people attended the event, and 3 students, who attended and were not previously members, joined AMWA following the event.
