Book Club Meet Up – September 2017

Three AMWA members met in Nashville to discuss the current book club selection: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Discussion topics included racial disparities in health care, informed consent, how medical writers can tell patient stories, and the responsibilities of scientists to balance the “common good” with individual rights.

Additional discussion is planned for the book club google group.

Networking in Nashville – August 2017

On August 25, nine AMWA members (including one new member who traveled from Mississippi!) met at Fat Bottom Brewing in Nashville. Discussion items included transitioning to medical writing, regulatory writing opportunities, and self-promotion best practices (business cards, LinkedIn, etc). It was a lovely night to enjoy the patio space!

Educational Presentation – Statistical Concepts for Medical Writers

Networking in Nashville – March 2017

Five current members of AMWA Southeast and three prospective members met for a networking event at Fidos Coffee Shop in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Over coffee, tea and cookies, we discussed the benefits of AMWA membership and attending the annual conference.

Prior to the event, three of our members had volunteered to launch a book club for medical writers. They presented their concept and thoughts on moving forward, all received and discussed with great enthusiasm.

Chapter Dinner at AMWA Conference 2016

The Southeast Chapter Dinner was held at Cru Food and Wine Bar in Denver, CO. Twelve AMWA members were in attendance. Ten individuals were current SE Chapter members; two additional individuals joined the group after invitation by the Chapter president because of recent or impending moves to the SE Chapter territory. The chapter president encouraged each member to do “one small thing” to increase connection between medical writers in their local areas.
